Cutting-edge pilot in Tampere as part of the EU-funded ReCreate project
Innovation and collaboration are vital for advancing sustainable construction. Consolis proudly participates in the EU-funded ReCreate project, which promotes the deconstruction and reuse of precast concrete e lements. Recently, Consolis Parma in Finland contributed by ensuring the quality of hollow core slabs for a residential mini pilot project in Tampere.
The EU-funded ReCreate project brings together stakeholders across Europe to pioneer new methods of reducing the carbon footprint of buildings while promoting resource efficiency. Consolis teams in Finland, Sweden, and the Netherlands are actively contributing to the project by providing technical expertise, advice, and innovative solutions.

Reclaimed elements in Finnish test
Consolis Parma in Finland recently made a significant contribution by ensuring the quality of hollow core slabs for reuse in a residential pilot project in Tampere, built by Skanska for A-Kruunu. These hollow core slabs were carefully inspected, tested, and refurbished to meet the requirements for reuse, showcasing how circular practices can be successfully implemented in real-world projects.
In this pilot, the team focused on testing key aspects of refurbishing reclaimed elements, including planning the refurbishment process and its implementation in collaboration with the Consolis Parma Kangasala factory. Managing the site-specific approval process for the reused parts was another critical element of the project. These efforts provided valuable insights into change management and building a strong foundation for future pilots. The goal is to gain practical experience in these innovative processes and expand Consolis’ service offerings in reuse.
Advancing circular construction
Beyond supplying elements, Consolis is involved in the broader goals of the ReCreate project. These include refining processes for the deconstruction, testing, and certification of reused precast concrete. Such efforts are critical to overcoming the barriers to circularity in construction and ensuring that reused elements meet the highest quality and safety standards.
