Consolis Latvia inaugurates modernized Rumbula factory to produce precast hybrid wind turbine towers
Consolis Group officially inaugurated its upgraded production facility in Rumbula, near Riga, on 7 May. The modernized factory is now fully operational and delivering large-scale precast concrete elements for hybrid wind turbine towers. The LaFlora Wind Park is a flagship green energy project by Latvenergo which will be built by Nordex Group.
“With the successful transformation of our Rumbula factory, we are strengthening industrial capabilities in Latvia and supporting the country’s path toward a more sustainable energy system. This achievement is the result of great teamwork locally and across Consolis, and a clear example of how our expertise in precast concrete can contribute to building the energy infrastructure of the future.”
– Eduard van der Meer, President and CEO, Consolis Group
The inauguration event brought together representatives from the Government of the Republic of Latvia, Ropaži Municipality, Baltic energy companies, wind farm developers and key contractors involved in the Laflora wind farm initiative. The strong turnout reflected the strategic importance of domestic renewable energy production and the vital role of industrial partnerships in enabling it.
“This project shows how we can move from residential construction to delivering critical infrastructure. We’ve transformed the entire factory setup, hired over 100 new employees, and are now producing complex elements that support Latvia’s renewable energy goals. We are very proud to be part of this project.”
– Esa Mäki, Managing Director, Consolis Baltics
The Laflora Wind Park will feature 16 Nordex turbines, each with a hybrid tower made of reinforced concrete and steel, reaching heights of up to 179 metres. It is the first time such towers will be produced locally in Latvia. Half of the total investment during the park’s construction phase will remain within the national economy, benefiting regional businesses and suppliers.
“The Consolis Latvija plant is a benefit for each of us, the country and the entire Baltic region as a whole.”
– Mārtiņš Čakste, Chairman of the Board and CEO, Latvenergo AS
The Rumbula factory will operate at high capacity throughout the delivery phase and stands as a model for sustainable industrial innovation. The project also supports Consolis Group’s strategy to lead the concrete industry’s low-carbon transformation, driven by its certified Green Spine Line® product portfolio and commitments under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
