The Principality of Monaco, a 2km2 territory located on the French Riviera, is currently working on an offshore urban extension project to reclaim 6 ha from the sea to build an ecodistrict. The first phase of the project includes the diversion and replacement of a sea outfall.
The underwater work experts at Trasomar – a Groupe Pastor subsidiary (leading luxury real estate company in Monaco) – are in charge of building this new 300 m long sea outfall. They chose Bonna TP, part of Bonna Sabla, to manufacture and install the steel cylinder concrete pipes that will replace the existing steel pipes.
Our Tubo Fabrega plant near Madrid in Spain will manufacture the 5 m long pipes (2,5 m internal diameter). It will take two pipes, SL joint welded onshore in the factory, to make a 10 metre and 48 ton “module”. Five modules will be shipped to Monaco every week. The modules will arrive on site in Monaco at night to minimize impact on traffic. Bonna TP will lay one module a day using a rubber ER joint.
The construction work will last from mid April until the end of July, adhering to a tight and strict schedule that has to take into account multiple events that Monaco will host during the period such as the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix and the Monte-Carlo tennis tournament.
The 6 ha Monaco urban extension will call for the diversion of other sea outfalls in the near future. Bonna TP plans to use its extensive experience as leader in designing and manufacturing steel concrete pipes – boasting 10,000 km of pipes laid in nearly 50 countries around the world – to successfully and seamlessly complete this first project, and adopt an ideal position as supplier for further contracts.
