Spæncom supports the construction of a major development project in Copenhagen.
Spæncom has produced about 2,500 precast elements – 2274 hollow-core slabs and 227 walls panels – for the new exciting BLOX construction in Copenhagen.
A BIM-enabled project
This project is an excellent example of the benefits of BIM. The whole process has been coordinated using BIM.5D®. Advanced 3D models from Spæncom and other subcontractors have formed the basis for a common model, which has streamlined communication between the professional groups and, among other things, resulted in 30,000 potential collisions being resolved in the planning phase instead of at the construction site.
Detailed 4D simulations of the construction schedule have also created great value. The modelling tool made it possible to achieve a 19 m deep foundation pit next to the harbour basin and to build over and under a busy road, while 25,000 cars passed through the site every day.
About BLOX
BLOX opened to the public on 6 May 2018, after five years of construction work. The six-storey multifunctional building is located directly by the water in the harbour area of Copenhagen. BLOX is structured as multiple blocks stacked on top of each other in a staggered formation.
This attractive urban development will house the Danish Architecture Centre (DAC). BLOX also contains exhibition spaces, offices and co-working spaces, a café, a bookstore, a fitness centre, a restaurant, twenty-two apartments and an underground automated public car park. The project is designed by one of the world’s leading architects, Rem Koolhaas, and his architectural office, OMA.
