Consolis has been honoured by Facebook for our results with Workplace. Our Digital Communication teams received the “Most impressive Business Results” prize from Workplace by Facebook VPs as a reward for our 5S/Lean implementation. Consolis’ use cases are now featured on WorkplaceUseCases.com, a library that lists Workplace communication success stories. One year after the launch, let’s look back at this successful collaboration.
Transform employee collaboration
Traditional team communication technologies, like email or intranets, often don’t reach employees out in the field. Also, the world has seen a paradigm shift in the way people communicate and collaborate. Creating enriching and engaging experiences for employees is the new norm. As an industrial Group with over 10,000 employees in 28 countries throughout the world, we needed a decentralized place to work together. Workplace by Facebook is a collaborative tool in which each employee can contribute in a “horizontal” way, without hierarchies or levels. By joining Workplace, Consolis became one of the first French companies to use the service. Since the deployment, the platform transformed how we communicate and we collaborate. The tool led our employees to share their innovations, their best practices and their successful projects, creating a virtuous circle of continuous improvement.
Implementing lean process improvements
In a production facility, the floor is that common element that everybody uses. A clean floor helps the workplace becomes cleaner, safer, well-organized and more pleasant. At Consolis, we implemented a lean initiative, called ‘Clean floor’, using of Workplace. Spearheaded by VP of Operations, we used groups and polls features to ensure compliance with the lean process across our global network of plants, sites and offices. The results far exceed our projections. Workplace allowed us to expand to make the changes visible and immediately understandable. Staff involved in the initiative expressed great pride in showing their working environments. Originally introduced for improving Firstly our production facilities, the initiative quickly extended to offices. The Workplace group dedicated to the operation aggregates feed-backs from Finland, Norway and the UK to France, Tunisia and Malaysia with the use of different formats (before-after comparisons, 360-degree photos, videos, best practices…).
Streamline internal communications
To keep our visitors and colleagues informed on Consolis’ latest news and events, we have developed a Workplace integration with our digital signage solution (eTV). It enables us to display in real time Workplace articles from selected local and global groups using a total of 50 digital screens strategically placed on walls, at entrances, in the canteen, in breakout rooms and so forth. This method of communication served to make the information within our company more accessible and easier to understand, particularly in places where email and desktop computers don’t have a strong presence.
Storytelling enabler / make our valuable projects more visible
Storytelling has dominated the communications and marketing arena for the last few years, and with good reason. Stories are powerful. Consolis’ Communication team was looking for a way to gather and share our most valuable initiatives in our external communication. But there are so many ways to collect a story, it can be overwhelming. By sorting the most engaging stories published by our employee on Workplace groups, we could highlight many interesting projects.
Workplace enabled us to bring teams together, develop common values, break down barriers, and collaborate more. Our group has become more agile. Communication is now both local and global, targeted, customized, relevant and fast. Who would have thought that the deeply-traditional construction industry could benefit so much from modern, digital approaches?
