Emporia shopping center

Description

The second-largest shopping centre in Scandinavia, Emporia, boasts a total surface of 93,000 m² that is home to 200 shops, restaurants, cafes and a unique roof park the size of four football pitches.

Consolis subsidiary Strängbetong who joined the project in 2007 in its early planning stages, built the giant frame of the shopping centre. Designers from both Emporia and Strängbetong collaborated early to propose innovative solutions for the project’s challenges: large volumes and assembly heights of up to 15 meters were some of the most demanding. Strängbetong delivered 171,000 m² of precast concrete elements, including columns, beams, HDF joists, double tee roofing slabs, stairs, wall panels and steel profiles.

Designed by Gert Wingardh, Emporia is Sweden’s first shopping centre to be BREEAM certified, the world’s foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings.
