Westrandweg motorway viaduc

Description

Through their Dutch subsidiary Spanbeton, Consolis provided precast concrete elements to develop the Westrandweg motorway that passes through Schiphol and the Amsterdam Harbour in the Netherlands. One of the project’s key challenges was the 3.5 km long viaduct, the longest in the Netherlands, which runs over the western harbour Basisweg.

In collaboration with the contractor Van Hattum & Blankevoort, Spanbeton developed a special prefabricated prestressed box-beam, the PIQ-beam, used for supporting the structure. The prowess of this technical product was also particularly adapted to one of the project’s essential requirements: rapid on-site assembly. The construction of the viaduct took place above the existing infrastructure, necessitating carefully planned logistics.
