SBTi validates Consolis Group’s near-term emissions reduction targets
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated that Consolis Group’s near-term emissions reduction targets are aligned with the 1.5°C science-based targets framework.
“The SBTi validation marks a significant milestone for Consolis, underlining our commitment to sustainability. It sends a clear message to our customers in the construction industry about our dedication to helping them reduce their greenhouse gas emissions effectively and responsibly,” says Mikael Stöhr, CEO of Consolis Group.
The global precast concrete building materials producer Consolis Group commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% by 2032, from the baseline year 2022. The company also adds a scope 3 target to its scope 1 and scope 2 reduction target to reduce absolute GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 30% within the same timeframe. The Group’s near-term targets have successfully been assessed against the SBTi’s strict criteria following a thorough validation procedure.
Consolis’ climate commitments to reach the reduction targets
To achieve the SBTi reduction targets, and address the ongoing climate crisis, Consolis is committed to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions:
- Reducing or replacing cement is a priority as the primary source of carbon emissions in concrete is related to the use of cement. Consolis is increasing and exploring the use of secondary cementitious materials and alternative binders.
- Optimizing the design to produce lighter and slimmer precast concrete elements that require less raw material while still maintaining quality standards.
- Improving manufacturing processes by adopting and developing existing technologies and standards contribute to decarbonization by optimizing raw materials, energy, and production processes.
- Collaboration with strategic partners throughout the value chain to achieve efficiency gains and reduce carbon emissions.
“Sustainability is integrated into all areas of our business. We are working with our customers, suppliers, researchers, and climate tech pioneers, to develop ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the construction industry,” says Mikael Stöhr.
Leadership in low-carbon concrete as a competitive advantage
Consolis Group is successfully promoting its low-carbon Green Spine Line® product line in the six markets where it is available. By the first half of 2024, approximately 37% (30) of Consolis’ total production volume was Green Spine Line® products. This corresponds to approximately 580k tons (535) of certified products with a direct saving of 21,000 tons (17,200) of carbon dioxide emissions compared to regular precast concrete.
