Espoon Tähystäjä

Description

The 14-storey building was designed by Arkkitehtitoimisto Petri Rouhiainen Oy. The themes and patterns of the facade elements are the work of graphic artist Aimo Katajamäki. The patterns depicting fishes, vegetation and waves make the house recognizable. In this regard, the residential building is called Tähystäjä, which means “Lookout” in Finnish.

The decorative patterns are achieved with Graphic Concrete, a patented technology that imparts images onto any precast concrete surface. The customization of the exterior cladding is done at the factory during the casting of the concrete elements. This way, the ready-to-install precast surface needs no additional cladding or additional work on-site.

The exterior cladding of the facades is designed to last 100 years. The housing company also includes an underground car park. Parma provided other prefab elements, including hollow-core slabs, balconies, columns, beams, sandwich and shell elements.
